Trail Overview: This preserve gets a lot of use from equestrians, joggers, and people walking their dogs but most visitors stick to the flat fire road. Start your hike at parking lot 6 (at the west end of the campus) and head towards the ball fields where 2 paths skirt them; a dirt one to the left and the paved path to the right will take you past the restrooms. At the far edge of the fields you'll pass through a gate and reach the boundary of the open space preserve, turn right to follow the accessible section of the trail.
This wide level fire road winds along the valley floor following a small seasonal creek with lots of shade provided by live oak and bay trees. Several narrower inaccessible trails branch off and climb the hillsides. In the wettest months, look for newts crossing the trail and in the tiny creek on the left. Coyote brush, sagebrush, and poison oak are plentiful.
More Info: Will be muddy after rains
