Hendy Woods State Park protects two groves of towering redwoods; some more than 300 feet tall and 1,000 years old. At Big Hendy Grove is the .6-mile wheelchair accessible Discovery Trail that travels through the park’s finest old-growth coast redwood and fern-filled forest. Other accessible features of the park includes, a rustic cabin (reviewed below), four campsites (#5, #37, #40 and #41) in the Azalea Loop (not reviewed here), a small visitor center and the meadow day-use area with two shade ramadas, picnic tables, barbecues, and bathroom facilities. An additional mile of accessible trails is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2019.

If you want to experience the joys of camping without the hassle of pitching a tent then check out the rustic accessible cabin nestled in the redwoods at Hendy Woods. Of the four cabins located in Wildcat campground, only Puma (#1) is accessible. The cabin was renovated in May 2018 to improve access. It is well constructed and the knotty pine walls make it feel as if you are still outdoors. It is minimally outfitted with a double-size bunk bed (the ladder to the upper bunk limits transfer clearance to the lower bunk however it can be repositioned by loosening some bolts), a table with a bench, a woodstove and lowered clothes hooks. Outside the cabin there is a spacious deck, a picnic table, and a raised fire-pit with a swing-away grill. There is space to pitch a small tent. A small visitor center with very limited hours is directly across from the cabin and a little further down the road is an accessible campfire center. The community bathroom/showers are nearby.

sleeps 4, 2 double bunk beds, at least 36" clear space along one side of bed, bed(s) are not moveable, 17 inches high

no indoor electrical outlets, unit is not heated (wood stove),unit does not have air conditioning or fan,no potable water is available ensuite

More Info:
No bedding is provided and since the beds are wooden platforms with no mattress pads you will want to bring some cushioning.
